Abstract

This chapter provides insights into the development of Health Informatics Educational Programmes in Africa utilizing tools and concepts developed by the work of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) Education Task Force and IMIA’s Strategy Model, the IMIA Recommendations on Education in Biomedical and Health Informatics and the IMIA Knowledge Base. The field of Health Informatics is rapidly evolving within sub-Saharan Africa, and the region’s unique needs and approaches to healthcare information ought to be addressed. There is a need to produce African graduates who can use relevant knowledge and skills in biomedical informatics in differing health domains to enable the development of key digital tools for improved healthcare for all and the building of the African healthcare systems of tomorrow.
