Abstract

As the importance of hospitality and tourism in Africa is increasingly being acknowledged and, consequently, the need for managing the impacts, both positive and negative, more management scholars will be called to address these impacts. The importance of an African perspective on management in contrast and complementary to traditional management theories based on western perspectives, is a relatively new approach to identify and provide solutions to the specific problems associated with the creation and operation of hospitality and tourism organisations as well as the societal impacts. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the outbreak of which occurred during the period in which this book was being finalised, has greatly impacted the hospitality and tourism industries in Africa and challenges many arguments and conclusions in the book. Here, we summarise a way forward for hospitality and tourism management that addresses the problems identified in the several chapters of this book and put forward recommendations for future research.
