Abstract

Evidence suggests that the integration of AI in medical imaging is leading to changes in radiology practice. As the influx of AI technology continues, radiologists’ role in society may become heavily impacted. This chapter highlights the expected impact that rapid advances of AI in medical imaging would have on the practice of radiology in the areas of image interpretation, residency training/education, radiologist professional outlook, salaries, role extension, vetting of radiology examinations, research activities, work values, cost and time of radiology services, as well as radiologists’ role in radiation dose optimization.
