ROLE OF VITAMINS IN HEART DISEASE

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

The role of antioxidant vitamins has generated much interest due to the supposed inhibition of lipid peroxidation in cardiovascular events. Even though an inverse relation between vitamin E and cardiovascular events has been indicated, vitamin C and provitamin A carotenoids remain cardioprotective. In this write-up, antioxidant properties of vitamin C were reviewed and a conceptual framework for vitamin E, which seems consistent with the literature, was made.
