Abstract

The proliferation of megachurches presents a new pattern of congregational life that has a particular resonance with contemporary society and culture. This has further lent credence to the role of preaching in shaping new forms of individual and community identity construction and social control. This chapter examines the sources, patterns, and trends of preaching in megachurches. Drawing on case studies from the Global North and Global South, the contribution explores how megachurches commodify their messages as well as highlights the prevalent themes considering the diversity of contexts and religious experiences in the global religious landscape.
