N2 - Aim: To explore the perspectives of male caregivers involved in managing newborn illnesses at home and in healthcare facilities. Methods: An exploratory descriptive design was used, involving face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 18 male caregivers selected through purposive sampling. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. Results: Two major themes emerged: a) Knowledge and attitudes of male caregivers toward newborn care and, b). Beliefs of male caregivers influencing newborn care. The first theme encompassed several subthemes: men's knowledge and reactions, their perceived responsibilities in newborn care, their emotional responses to their baby's illness, the support they provide during such times, and their affection towards their ill babies. The second theme included subthemes related to men's perceptions of their involvement in newborn care and how family ties influence their caregiving role. Conclusion: The findings underscore the essential role that male caregivers play in newborn care, especially during illness. Insights into their perspectives can inform healthcare providers in delivering targeted support and education. Policymakers in Ghana can use this information to develop interventions that promote male involvement in newborn care. Enhancing support systems and communication can improve health outcomes for newborns and strengthen family bonds.
