Abstract
The modern world is struggling under the burden of a large number of chronic diseases and ailments associated with metabolic dysregulation. More than 230 million people throughout the world are affected by metabolic illnesses, and this number is anticipated to roughly double in the next 25 years. Metabolic disorders are currently the fourth greatest cause of mortality due to disease. This chapter focuses on the problems in carbohydrate metabolism, as well as a variety of other metabolic derangements including obesity, atherosclerosis, cancer, and alcoholic liver disease. However, the chapter does not pretend to be exhaustive in its coverage of metabolic illness.
