Abstract

This chapter delves into the operations, transportation, and logistics management (OTLM) in the oil and gas industry in emerging and developing countries (EDCs). It provides an overview of OTLM in the oil and gas industry in general while highlighting some of the situational challenges facing EDCs in the African context. We find that the major challenges facing the oil and gas industry in the EDCs are lack of financial resources, refinery capacity, regulatory compliance monitoring, investment in state-of-the-art technology, and political instability. We further discuss how improvements in the OTLM can help address some of these challenges, including feasible solutions that can be adopted by EDCs to have an immediate impact on the management of oil and gas industries.
