Abstract

Kidney diseases affect millions of people worldwide. While the global burden of kidney diseases is still on the rise, several conventional approaches to the treatment of these conditions are not yielding expected results and therefore necessitate the need for exploring alternative options. A holistic approach of integrating complementary medicine (CM) into mainstream healthcare in treating kidney diseases will help find lasting solutions to such disorders and improve the quality of their well-being, manage symptoms, and prolong their life. This chapter explores the various anomalies that affect the kidneys and how CM approaches, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, and dietary interventions, can be applied in kidney disease treatment and management.
