Abstract

The intrinsic switching and multistability of photoluminescence in glass doped with Yb3+ and Tm3+ impurities at room temperature are studied. Laser emission in waveguides is found to undergo hysteretic switching just above threshold at room temperature. The Lorentz local field model do not account in its present form for the observed multistability and reversal or relative switching polarity of near-infrared and visible hysteresis.
