Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in the transport sector of developing countries, emphasizing its application across various domains such as traditional taxi services, delivery agencies, the gig economy, and road network management. AI integration offers significant improvements in efficiency, safety, and sustainability, addressing the critical challenges of congestion, accidents, and pollution. However, the adoption of AI in these regions faces hurdles like technological readiness, regulatory frameworks, and ethical considerations. The chapter also delves into the challenges and barriers to AI adoption and provides policy recommendations to foster a more equitable and effective transport system. By leveraging AI technologies, developing countries can enhance their transport infrastructure, contributing to broader economic and social development goals.
