Abstract

This chapter looks at the human resource management (HRM) practices in the oil and gas industry in developing countries. HRM in the oil and gas sector in developing countries has become an exciting area of interest for understanding how HR practices, concepts, and designs are utilised in the supply chain operations associated with the exploration, extraction, production, and consumption of oil and gas resources in the upstream, midstream, and downstream processes. Consequently, this chapter discusses some innovative HR bundles required in the oil and gas industry like recruitment and selection of employees; contracting versus local content for manpower; strategic training and development; technological transfer and empowerment of personnel; and rewarding employees in the oil and gas industry. These HR bundles are discussed with the empirical evidence that is available from selected developing countries and the broader point of view is made where appropriate.
