Abstract

Based on review of primary and secondary data supplemented by oral interviews, this paper shows professor Adu Boahen’s contribution to African historiography. The paper also contributes to the literature between history and post-colonial state craft and the ongoing project of decolonizing African historiography. The findings show that political action and historical consciousness cannot be disentangled, therefore Adu Boahen was not just a renowned historian who contributed to pioneering African historiography but was also instrumental in the attempt to consolidate democratic culture in Ghana.
